Morpheus8 is one of the most clinically versatile energy-based treatments available in Singapore today — and one of the most frequently misrepresented. It is not simply a skin-tightening device, nor a skin quality treatment, nor a lifting procedure. Accurately understood, it is all three simultaneously, to varying degrees, depending on how it is configured and which depth settings are used for a given concern.
At MIRAE, Morpheus8 RF Microneedling is our most-requested treatment — a reflection of both its breadth of application and the genuine outcomes it produces for patients across a wide range of skin concerns. This guide explains the clinical reality of what Morpheus8 is, how it works, what it can and cannot address, how it compares to other energy-based devices, and what a patient in Singapore can realistically expect from a properly conducted treatment course.
What Is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 is a fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device that combines two established mechanisms — mechanical microneedling and radiofrequency energy delivery — into a single treatment platform. The device uses an array of insulated microneedles that penetrate the skin to a programmable depth, then emit bipolar radiofrequency energy from the needle tips into the target tissue.
The key clinical distinction of Morpheus8 over standard microneedling or standard radiofrequency treatments is its depth range. With interchangeable tip configurations, Morpheus8 can target tissue from 1mm (superficial dermis) to 8mm (subdermal fat and fibrous septae). This makes it effective across a broader range of concerns than either microneedling or RF alone can address.
Fractional delivery — why it matters: The RF energy is delivered through discrete needle points rather than uniformly across the surface. This fractional approach preserves surrounding tissue between treatment points, enabling faster healing and allowing higher energy delivery to the targeted zones without the extended downtime associated with fully ablative treatments like CO₂ laser resurfacing.
How Morpheus8 Works: Needles + RF at Depth
Understanding how Morpheus8 produces results requires understanding the two mechanisms working together.
Mechanism 1 — Mechanical microneedling: The needles physically puncture the skin to a controlled depth, creating micro-injuries. This triggers the skin's wound-healing cascade: growth factors are released, fibroblasts are activated, and new collagen and elastin synthesis begins. This is the same mechanism as standalone microneedling, but in Morpheus8 it is only the first part of what happens at each treatment point.
Mechanism 2 — Radiofrequency thermal coagulation: As the needles reach their target depth, bipolar RF energy is emitted from the insulated needle tips. This creates controlled thermal coagulation zones in the dermis and subdermal tissue at precise depths. The thermal injury stimulates a second, deeper wave of collagen remodelling and tissue contraction — one that pure mechanical microneedling cannot access.
The combination produces a dual biological response: surface wound healing from the needles above, and deep collagen remodelling from the RF energy below. This is why Morpheus8 addresses both skin quality at the surface and structural laxity at depth — two different concerns resolved through two distinct mechanisms in the same session. For a deeper understanding of why collagen stimulation matters as a long-term strategy, read our guide on collagen banking in Singapore.
The ability to treat at 8mm depth is a defining feature of Morpheus8. Most RF microneedling devices reach 3–4mm. The deep tip configuration is what allows Morpheus8 to address concerns — such as early jowling and subdermal fat in the lower face — that shallower devices cannot reach.
What Morpheus8 Treats
Because Morpheus8 operates across a depth range of 1–8mm and triggers both surface healing and deep remodelling, it has one of the broadest clinical applications of any single aesthetic device available in Singapore — addressing face concerns and skin concerns through the same treatment.
Acne Scars
Morpheus8 is a well-established non-ablative treatment for atrophic acne scarring — rolling scars, boxcar scars, and shallow ice-pick scars. RF energy at 3–4mm depth remodels the fibrous tissue causing scar tethering, while surface microneedling stimulates new collagen fill from above. Multiple sessions are typically required for significant scarring. Read our full acne scar treatment guide.
Enlarged Pores
Superficial RF delivery at 1–2mm targets the sebaceous gland activity and dermal collagen supporting pore walls. Collagen tightening around pore openings reduces their visible diameter. Results are progressive and particularly noticeable in patients with oily or combination skin.
Uneven Skin Texture
Rough, uneven, or dull skin surface texture — whether from sun damage, ageing, or post-inflammatory changes — responds well to the surface collagen remodelling Morpheus8 triggers. Skin tone and smoothness typically improve progressively over three to four months.
Early Facial Laxity & Jowling
At 5–8mm using the deep tip, Morpheus8 targets the subdermal fibrous tissue that supports facial structure. Thermal contraction in this zone tightens the structural scaffold of the lower face, reducing early jowling and improving jawline definition. This is Morpheus8's structural capability — distinct from its skin quality applications.
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Superficial and mid-dermal RF delivery stimulates new collagen and elastin to fill in fine lines from below the surface. Effective for perioral lines, forehead lines, and lines around the eyes that have a textural — rather than purely muscular — component.
Double Chin & Submental Fat
The deep tip at 6–8mm in the submental area creates thermal coagulation in superficial fat lobules, producing fat cell disruption and fibrous tissue contraction. Used in the neck and under-chin area to reduce double chin and improve the cervicomental angle.
Scars & Stretch Marks
Morpheus8 RF microneedling remodels scar tissue by breaking down fibrous collagen and stimulating new, organised collagen deposition. Effective for post-surgical scars, stretch marks, and skin texture irregularities in body areas as well as the face.
Skin Dullness & Uneven Tone
Collagen remodelling at the dermal level improves skin radiance and translucency over time. Morpheus8 is not a pigmentation treatment — it does not target melanin directly — but overall skin renewal contributes to improved luminosity and skin brightening, particularly when combined with targeted laser treatments.
What Morpheus8 does not treat directly: Morpheus8 is not a primary treatment for pigmentation (melasma, sunspots, freckles), vascular concerns (redness, rosacea), or active acne. For pigmentation, Pico Laser (see our Pico Laser guide) or Yellow Laser are more clinically appropriate. For deeper resurfacing, see our CO₂ Laser guide. For active acne, a dedicated acne control protocol addresses the underlying cause before skin resurfacing. Many patients benefit from Morpheus8 in combination with these treatments — addressing different concerns in sequenced sessions.
Morpheus8 + Exosomes: What the Combination Adds
Morpheus8 RF Microneedling + Exosome Therapy
Exosomes are extracellular vesicles — nanoscale messenger particles naturally released by stem cells — that carry growth factors, cytokines, proteins, and signalling molecules involved in cellular repair and regeneration. When applied topically to the skin immediately after Morpheus8 treatment, exosomes are absorbed through the thousands of micro-channels created by the needles — pathways that would otherwise be inaccessible through intact skin.
The clinical rationale for combining exosomes with Morpheus8 is the convergence of timing: the post-treatment window when the skin's wound-healing cascade is maximally active is exactly when exosome-delivered growth factors can potentiate the regenerative response with greater effect. The combination is believed to amplify collagen stimulation, accelerate skin recovery, reduce post-treatment redness and inflammation, and improve overall results compared to Morpheus8 alone.
This combination — Morpheus8 RF Microneedling with Exosome Therapy — is one of MIRAE's signature protocols and the reason our Morpheus8 page is consistently our most visited treatment page. Read more about exosome therapy at MIRAE and about the Morpheus8 + Exosome combination treatment. MIRAE also offers a Pico Laser + Exosome combination for patients whose primary concern is pigmentation and skin rejuvenation rather than textural remodelling.
Morpheus8 vs HIFU vs Oligio RF: How They Compare
Morpheus8, HIFU, and Oligio RF are the three primary energy-based tightening and remodelling technologies at MIRAE. They use different energy types, reach different depths, and are clinically indicated for different concerns. Understanding the distinction helps clarify which is most appropriate for a given patient — or whether a combination approach is warranted. A full comparison is available in our dedicated Morpheus8 vs HIFU vs Oligio skin tightening guide.

Individual suitability is determined during a consultation with Dr Cherie Lau. Many patients benefit from a combination of two or more devices addressing different depths and concerns.
What to Expect: Treatment, Downtime & Results
Before Treatment
A topical numbing cream is applied 30–45 minutes before the procedure to minimise discomfort during needle penetration. Dr Cherie Lau conducts a facial assessment to determine the appropriate tip configuration, depth settings, and energy levels for each treatment zone — these are not standardised uniformly but calibrated to your skin's thickness, the concern being addressed, and the anatomy of each area.
During Treatment
The Morpheus8 handpiece is passed systematically across the treatment area in multiple passes, with different depth settings used for different zones. Patients typically describe the sensation as a combination of pressure and warmth, with brief sharp sensations at moments of needle penetration. The numbing cream makes the procedure tolerable for most patients. A full-face Morpheus8 session typically takes 45 to 75 minutes depending on the areas treated and number of passes.
Immediately After
Expect redness, mild swelling, and pinpoint marks at the needle entry points immediately after treatment. The skin will feel warm and appear flushed — similar in appearance to a moderate sunburn. If exosomes are applied in the same session, they are administered immediately post-treatment while the micro-channels are open. Most patients are comfortable returning home without concealment, though some prefer to plan around a couple of days of social downtime.
Recovery & Aftercare
- Day 1–2: Redness, mild swelling, pinpoint marks. Keep skin clean and moisturised. Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours.
- Day 3–5: Skin may feel slightly rough or textured as surface renewal occurs. This is normal and temporary.
- Day 5–7: Most visible marks have resolved. Skin begins to feel smoother.
- Week 2 onwards: Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF 50 daily without exception. Sun protection is critical during the collagen remodelling phase.
- Avoid vigorous exercise, saunas, and steam rooms for 48–72 hours post-treatment.
Results Timeline
Week 1–2
Redness and marks resolve. Skin surface feels smoother as initial healing completes. No visible collagen result yet — the biological cascade is just beginning.
Week 4–8
First visible improvements appear. Pores look smaller, skin texture begins to smooth, and early tightening becomes noticeable. Acne scar improvement starts to show.
Month 3
Significant improvement visible. New collagen is maturing — skin is firmer, smoother, and more luminous. Acne scar filling is progressively more evident. This is typically the optimal review point.
Month 4–6
Peak results from a single session. Collagen remodelling continues to mature. For patients undergoing multiple sessions, subsequent treatments are typically scheduled at 4–6 week intervals after the first.
Month 12–18
Results from a completed treatment course typically last 12–18 months before a maintenance session is recommended, subject to individual variation and lifestyle factors including sun protection.
Number of sessions: For skin quality concerns (texture, enlarged pores, mild acne scars), three to five sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart typically produces a satisfying result. For moderate to significant acne scarring, a course of 3-5 sessions is more commonly recommended. For structural concerns such as jowling, the number of sessions and depth settings are determined by the severity of laxity and the patient's overall treatment plan.
Dr Cherie Lau personalises depth settings, energy levels, and the number of passes per zone at each session — the same treatment is not applied uniformly to every patient. This calibration is where clinical experience most directly affects outcomes.
Morpheus8 Price in Singapore: What Affects Cost
Morpheus8 pricing in Singapore varies between clinics and between individual treatment plans. Understanding what drives the cost helps set realistic expectations before your consultation.
Treatment Area & Number of Zones
Primary cost driverA full face and neck treatment covering multiple zones costs more than a targeted single-area session. Larger body area treatments (abdomen, arms, thighs) are priced differently from facial treatments. The extent of coverage is the most significant pricing variable.
Tip Configuration & Depth Settings
Clinical factorMorpheus8 uses different tip types for different applications — the standard tip (up to 4mm), the deep tip (up to 8mm for structural concerns), and the resurfacing tip. Treatments using the deep tip for structural laxity typically require more clinical time and may affect pricing.
Number of Passes Per Zone
Clinical factorMore passes per area — at different depths and energy levels — means greater collagen stimulation and longer treatment time. Patients with significant scarring or laxity may require more passes to achieve clinical effect, influencing overall session duration and cost.
Exosome Add-On
Optional upgradeAdding exosome therapy to a Morpheus8 session enhances the regenerative response and is priced as an additional component. The combination is offered as MIRAE's signature Morpheus8 + Exosome protocol.
On pricing transparency: At MIRAE, pricing is provided during the consultation following an assessment of your specific treatment needs. Dr Cherie Lau does not recommend a treatment plan without first understanding your concerns and goals — and the cost reflects that plan, not a standard package. A consultation is the appropriate place to receive a personalised quote.
Who Is Morpheus8 Suitable For?
Morpheus8 is one of the most inclusively suitable aesthetic treatments available — its effectiveness is not significantly limited by skin type, making it appropriate for the full Fitzpatrick skin type range, including darker skin tones that can be at risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with some laser treatments.
Good candidates include:
- Patients with acne scarring — atrophic scars (rolling, boxcar, shallow ice-pick) respond progressively to the collagen remodelling effect
- Patients with enlarged pores and oily or combination skin texture
- Patients with early to moderate facial laxity — softening jawline, early jowls, loss of cheek firmness — who are not yet candidates for surgical correction
- Patients with dull, uneven, or rough skin texture that has not responded adequately to topical treatments
- Patients with a double chin or submental fat where a non-surgical approach is preferred
- Patients on a scar renewal journey who want progressive, non-ablative improvement
- Patients with darker skin types (Fitzpatrick III–VI) for whom purely laser-based resurfacing carries higher risk of pigmentation complications
Situations where Morpheus8 requires more careful consideration:
- Active acne or open skin infections: Active inflammatory acne should be managed with an acne control protocol before Morpheus8 is appropriate — RF microneedling into active lesions can spread bacteria and worsen breakouts.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Deferred during this period.
- Metal implants or pacemakers: The presence of metal implants near the treatment area or cardiac devices is a contraindication for radiofrequency treatment. Dr Cherie Lau reviews this at consultation.
- Isotretinoin (Accutane): A waiting period after completing isotretinoin is recommended before RF microneedling, as the medication affects skin healing.
- Keloid tendency: Patients with a history of keloid scarring require careful discussion before any needling procedure.
- Significant structural sagging: For patients with pronounced facial sagging where structural lifting is the primary goal, HIFU targeting the SMAS layer may be a more appropriate primary treatment — with Morpheus8 addressing skin quality as a complementary modality. Dr Cherie Lau will advise based on your specific degree of laxity.
Combining Morpheus8 With Other Treatments
Morpheus8's strongest clinical results often come when it is part of a broader treatment plan rather than a standalone protocol. Here is how it complements the other treatments at MIRAE.
Morpheus8 + HIFU
Skin Quality + Structural LiftingThe most complementary pairing in the MIRAE treatment menu. Morpheus8 improves skin texture, pores, and surface quality. HIFU targets the SMAS layer for structural lifting that Morpheus8 cannot access. Together they address both the quality of the skin and the structural position of the tissue beneath it. Read more: HIFU Singapore: A Doctor's Guide.
Morpheus8 + Oligio RF
Layered RF RemodellingMorpheus8 delivers fractional RF through needles for skin quality. Oligio Monopolar RF delivers volumetric heating across the dermis and subdermal tissue for broader tightening. The combination layers RF stimulation at different zones and mechanisms — often used in the same treatment plan for patients with both texture and laxity concerns. See our full comparison guide.
Morpheus8 + Pico Laser
Texture + PigmentationMorpheus8 handles skin texture, acne scars, and pores. Pico Laser handles pigmentation, melasma, and dark spots. These two concerns frequently co-exist — particularly in patients with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne. The treatments are sequenced (not same-session) to allow skin recovery between each. See our Pico Laser Singapore guide for full details.
Morpheus8 + BTX Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Texture + Dynamic Muscle RelaxationMorpheus8 addresses textural lines, laxity, and skin quality. BTX anti-wrinkle injections address dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Combining both is appropriate for patients where wrinkles have both a textural component (Morpheus8 territory) and a muscle-driven component (BTX territory) — which is very common in the forehead and eye area. Read our anti-wrinkle injections guide for a full explanation of how BTX works.
Morpheus8 + Biostimulators or Skin Boosters
Collagen Depth LayeringMorpheus8 stimulates collagen from within the dermis using heat. Biostimulators and collagen skin boosters introduce collagen-stimulating agents directly into the dermis via injection. The combination layers collagen stimulation through different mechanisms simultaneously. For patients unsure which skin booster suits them, read our skin boosters comparison guide covering HA, PDLLA, PN and exosomes, or our Profhilo, Rejuran and Skinvive guide. Often included as part of a comprehensive lift and firm protocol or scar renewal programme.
Morpheus8 + PDO Liquid Threadlift or Dermal Fillers
Structural Lifting + Skin QualityFor patients with both skin quality concerns and volume or structural deficit, Morpheus8 can be combined with PDO Liquid Threadlift for mechanical lifting, or HA Dermal Fillers to restore lost facial volume. Morpheus8 improves the skin quality; the injectables address the structural framework beneath it — a layered approach that treats ageing comprehensively rather than treating each concern in isolation.
